Campbell King of White Rock, B.C., a tells this 1915 story:

An American and his wife touring along the Thames came to a town where bands were playing and flags flying. What was all the excitement about, he asked.

“We’re celebrating the centennial of the signing of Magna Carta here at Runnymede,” a resident replied.

“When did it take place?”

“1215”

The American looked at his watch, turned to his wife and said: “Sorry, honey, we missed it by 15 minutes.”
