I accompanied my Dad to The Netherlands in 1985 and again in 2017 to commemorate the anniversary of that country’s liberation. The Dutch people as always remember the Canadians with great warmth and genuine appreciation for what Canada did. Many Canadians are oblivious to the sacrifice that was made and that is truly saddening. Many educators are putting more emphasis on social history and matters that have occurred over the past 50 years they feel has more social redeeming value. Freedom can neither touched nor tasted but when taken away is crippling. History should be not taught not in fashionable dollops or by ill informed revisionists.
