Letters From The Bowes Brothers – May 16, 1917 Somewhere in France

My Dear Mother and Evelyn,

Just a few lines tonight to let you know that I am well and still OK. Yes, I am away from the battalion as the chaplain wrote you but was with the Boissevain boys a week or so ago and all were in good health. Del Holyroyd, Gordon Little, Ribbons and Hank Danerson were all killed in the push. So the boys got hit pretty heavy. Stan Mitchell was wounded in March but is back again. I have not seen Jim Taylor for some time but he is still OK.

I have not been able to get to where Freddie is buried but will go as soon as possible and then let you know. Him and Jim are buried about 20 miles apart.

By the time this letter reaches you it will be midsummer. I sure wish this war was over and we were all home once more. Nearly two years now since I saw you all last.

Your loving son,

Cliff
