Here’s a mess story from Jeffrey Hanley of Vernon, B.C.:

We had won a small battle and the commanding officer (CO) decided on a small feast. With the sweets and savories spread profusely on the tables, the CO said: “Men, I’m proud of what you did today and I want you to attack this food like you did the enemy.”

Whitey Henson began immediately to shove pastries into his pockets. When the CO remonstrated, Whitey said: “Just taking a few prisoners, sir.”
