Letters From Bill – Aug. 20, 1944

Dear Mrs. Cameron,

I am sitting by the bedside of your son Bill, and writing this letter to let you know of his present situation.  We are in a very beautiful, very efficient Canadian hospital in England where the care is wonderful.

Bill was wounded in the chest and though in some pain from time to time is responding to treatment. I know you are terribly concerned about your son but you mustn’t worry unduly for he has the best of care and I am told his condition is steadily improving and today he looks much better than any time since I’ve seen him.

Bill has the best here. He is fortunate enough to be in a private room and has been kept stocked up with magazines and books to read. His friends drop in to see him at all hours and his life here is happy as can be under the circumstances.

I am one of the officers of his old company and am writing for him because his wounds make using his right arm rather difficult.

Sincerely yours,

Lt. Patrick Webster
