His 94-year-old uncle, Jim, a First World War veteran, wrote a cheque to pay his city taxes but died before the cheque was cashed. He received this notice: “Mr. James T., the bank has informed us that they cannot cash your cheque. Reason–drawer deceased. Please send another cheque within seven days and no service charge will be made. Your immediate attention is required. Joyce C., finance department.”
