The Night In The Trenches 2013 – Kirstin

“This was my first year that I participated in the trenches. My brother has been going for the past four years. The idea of going on the trip has always been interesting. But there was never many girls going out to dig trenches. This year I figured I might as well try it out before I graduate and the opportunity is gone. I had one friend, Casey who was particularly enthusiastic and supportive about going to the trenches. Four girls went, I’m so glad I chose to go, it was an amazing experience that I’m proud of accomplishing, Me and my partner, Amanda dug a trench that was just as deep as many of the boys. Despite being told we wouldn’t be able to do it. This experience really made me thankful for the sacrifices others have made for me. That night wasn’t easy and it wasn’t warm, but it definitely makes me think and it will make me remember. I already look forward to next year. My favorite moment was definitely looking up at the sky and seeing huge Northern Lights and then Mr. McKay suggesting that in some way they were a thank you from the fallen soldiers.”
