A cover that jumps off the newsstands and a series of powerful illustrations on the agony of operational stress injuries have won Legion Magazine two prestigious awards in the past few months.
In February, Communication Arts, an internationally recognized art magazine published in the United States, chose a series of illustrations in the magazine for its 2013 Communication Arts Editorial Award of Excellence. The illustrations capture soldiers’ inner turmoil in the two-part series, The War Within, by Staff Writer Sharon Adams which appeared in the November/December 2012 and January/February 2013 issues.
The illustrations were conceptualized by Legion Magazine Art Director Jason Duprau, Senior Designer Jennifer McGill and created by freelance illustrator Rory Kurtz. The work can be found on Legion Magazine website at legionmagazine.com/en/index.php/2012/11/operational-stress-injuries-part-1-the-war-within/.
The illustrations will be displayed in Communication Art’s May/June 2013 issue. Legion Magazine will receive a personalized Award of Excellence milled from solid aluminum and a certificate.
That news was followed by the magazine receiving first prize in the General Interest, Arts, Lifestyle and Regional category at the Canadian Cover Awards for its January/February 2012 cover.
“This is tremendous news,” said Legion Magazine General Manager Jennifer Morse. “We are a small but dedicated team and this recognizes the incredible talent on staff and the guidance of Scott Bullock, CoversSell.com. Well done to all. The credit is theirs.”
The award comes with a $3,000 credit for newsstand promotion, which the magazine will use to promote its next special interest publication at airport newsstands across the country this October.
