Rev. Clifford Waite of Oakwood, Ont., says his father, Company Sergeant-Major C.F. Waite, was a drill sergeant with the 48th Highlanders for many years.
“All right, you dummies, fall out,” he once ordered. The company fell out with a clatter, except for one man.
“Well?” roared CSM Waite.
The man smiled and said: “There sure were a lot of them, weren’t there, Sarge?”
