Les Williams of Winnipeg, recounts:

The Bonaventure had just berthed astern of a huge American carrier in Norfolk, Va., and one of the Bonnie’s crew was having a drink in a nearby bar when an American sailor came alongside.

“Say, Canada, you on that baby aircraft-carrier?”

The Canadian allowed that he was.

“Well, I’m on that big one. She weighs 65,000 tons and can do 50 knots. How fast will that baby carrier of yours go?”

“They just ask us to keep up with the aircraft,” the Canadian said.
