Canadian troops participate in a major attack against Flers-Courcelette on the Somme battlefield in France. The attack marks the first occasion when tanks are deployed in battle. The operation plays out successfully as a series of leaps and bounds. However, of the 32 British tanks initially deployed, only about 10 prove to be of any use to the infantry. The remainder are either knocked out or suffer mechanical breakdowns.

Operation Peregrine ends. The operation saw 2,200 Canadian Forces personnel helping to combat a massive outbreak of forest fires in the British Columbia interior. For more than a month, the CF personnel aided firefighters in containing and extinguishing fires in one of the largest Canadian Forces operations in Canada.
