For the second year in a row, Legion Magazine has been nominated for the prestigious Pierre Berton Award for writers and producers of Canadian history in popular media.
The award, also known as the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in popular media, was created by Canada’s History Society. It will be presented by Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in December.
The citation reads in part: “One of Canada’s oldest independent magazines, published continuously since 1926, Legion Magazine is also one of the largest with a print and online readership of close to 900,000. Its bimonthly magazine often features the work of Canada’s leading military historians and regularly provides insight into the history of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army.”
Since 2010, Legion Magazine has published critically acclaimed special interest publications, chronicling the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War.
Also nominated for the award in 2013 are Canadian War Museum historian and author Tim Cook, and author Mark Zuehlke.
Previous winners of the award include Pierre Berton, J.L. Granatstein, Peter C. Newman and CRB Foundation’s Heritage Minutes.
