Back in March, 1983, Art Nelson of Toronto, was lamenting in verse that nobody had seen Kilroy since the war.
Now he regrets that he can’t find a can of M&V (mutton and veal):
Fray Bentos bully beef
Is at your grocery store,
And beans and prunes
And Brussels sprouts
We ate when in the war.
Although we’ve searched
Both high and low,
Nowhere do we see
A single, solitary can
Of delicious M&V
Somewhere in this lovely land,
A veteran there must be
Who has stashed deep
In his old packsack
Some cans of M&V
If he would care to get in touch,
How pleasant it would be
To bring our spoon
And join him soon
For a feast of M&V
