R. Chalmers of Amherstview, Ont., tells this story on himself:
“I had been an electronics instructor at Canadian Forces Base Kingston, Ont., for less than a year. One day in the spring of 1980, I noticed a young recruit having trouble keeping his eyes open during one of my lectures.
“I asked whether I was keeping him awake.
“’Yes, sergeant,’ he replied.
“Taken back, I asked whether he was getting any sleep at night.
“’No sergeant, I usually get enough in your class,’ he said.”
