On Friday, Feb, 15th, 88 Legion members descended on the picturesque island nation of Grenada. Although Grenada is not the largest island in the Caribbean, the welcome could not have been any warmer. Lauren Grey, the RCEL representative has work with us for the past three months to put together an extraordinary visit to Grenada.

After a scenic and hilly drive through the Grenada country side, we came upon the factory where nutmeg is processed- one of Grenada’s major exports. We were shown how nutmeg is sorted, cleaned and processed in a very fragrant environment. Everyone was shocked to hear that the workers make $14 a day for their efforts.

Next we stopped at Fort Fredrick, the site of many skirmishes between the English and the French for decades in the 1600s. Now Fort Fredrick is best known for its panoramic views across Grenada.

A special day ended with a visit and lunch hosted by the Governor General of Grenada, Sir Carlyle Glean, and his wife in their beautiful home. We were fortunate to be joined by two active RCEL veterans, which dawned Legion caps from Kelowna, B.C., Branch for the group photo. Everyone was thrilled with the chance to spend time in with local Grenadians, and veterans not unlike themselves!

On to Barbados, for another special day with RCEL veterans on this island on Saturday!
