Wartime survivor

Charles Read of Boyle, Alta., shares a photo of his uncle Arthur Robert Wright who served in the Royal Artillery in the First World War.

“He went by ship to Egypt, but on the way his ship was torpedoed,” explains Read. “He was picked up by another ship and that ship was also torpedoed. He was picked up by a third ship which made it safely to Egypt.”

Read notes that after the war his uncle farmed in England until 1930 when he moved to Canada. “He worked on a farm in Alberta for the balance of his working life. He passed away in the 1950s.”

We thank Charles for his contribution to Find-Share-Discuss, and invite readers to share similar memories of wartime or peacetime service.
