Even at the worst of times, there is humor.
Our contemporary, Airforce magazine, had just published a biting article about the accidental bombing of Canadian troops in Normandy by the RCAF’s No. 6 Group on Aug. 14, 1944.
Just as that article appeared, we heard from E.C. Bull of Vancouver, about this same disaster. He says that as the bombs rained down, “the strain was broken by the timely action of Russ McLeod, 44th Bty., 13th Field Regt., RCA, who wiggled his way from slit trench to slit trench uttering: ‘Programs, programs, get your programs. Can’t tell friend from foe without a program.’”
