“I think that the trenches have been great. For those who participated in this event it was a good way of remembering those who fought for our country and it gives the students a little bit of an idea of what their living conditions were like. One year I helped make a nice hot supper for the people doing the trenches and they really appreciated that, but in reality they never got nice, hot meals in the war and it makes us appreciate what we have more. It is very encouraging to me to see students eager to dig the trenches and sleep in them but I haven’t done it. I haven’t put much thought into actually doing it but I think I would if I was asked. It would be very cold at night and hard work during the day, but doing this would make people respect the soldiers more, I think.”
