Letters From The Bowes Brothers – March 4th, 1917 Somewhere in France

Dear Mother and Family,

Just a few lines to let you know that I have had no further news of Freddie only that he arrived at the [casualty clearing station] in very fair condition, considering the shape he is in. Jim’s funeral was held yesterday and, Mother dear, your soldier boy got what many others did not—a decent burial. He was laid to rest in the same cemetery as Mr. Bowring and hundreds of the boys both French and Canadian. Jim Taylor and Billy Reed were with me.

The chaplain told me yesterday that he would drop you a letter. No doubt he will be able to give you some particulars that I have not received yet.

I received the parcels you sent me for my birthday last night. Everything came through fine also got parcels for Jim and Fred sent by the ladies of Boissevain. Kindly acknowledge same for me.

I hope and pray that this terrible hour will be made as light as possible for you.

Your loving son,

Cliff
