The Legion National Foundation has received a donation of $15,000 from the Order of St. George.
The order supports Canadian and American military personnel, first responders and their families who demonstrate need as a result of stressful duties performed at home or abroad, as well as other eligible organizations dedicated to veterans’ welfare.
“We heard about many of the Legion National Foundation’s initiatives to help veterans, many of whom were suffering greatly and financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we mobilized our first-ever national call to our membership to raise funds in support of veterans,” said Robert Hamilton, Order of St. George past president and lead on the fundraising project.
It works to support initiatives that positively impact the well-being and quality of life of Canada’s veterans and their families.
In August, National Foundation Chair David Flannigan presented a $2,500 bursary to Warrant Officer (Second Class) Ashtyn Wells of the Kinsmen air cadet squadron in St. John’s. She plans to attend Memorial University in St. John’s to study pharmacy.
The foundation was incorporated in 2016 and granted charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency in 2017. Its focus is veterans’ wellness, pilgrimages, scholarships and bursaries, and remembrance contests. It works to support initiatives that positively impact the well-being and quality of life of Canada’s veterans and their families. Donations to the foundation receive a tax receipt.
