A Father Sees His Son Off To War, July 20, 1942.

FSD-3-1

“Grandpa served with the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor), the 4th Canadian Armoured Division,” wrote Dwight LeBlue who submitted this photo of his great grandfather Auguste LeBlue (right) and his grandfather Edmond LeBlue.

Dwight tells us the photo was taken at Hudson Bay, Sask., and that his grandfather would see action throughout Northwest Europe. “While fighting in France, Grandpa would be made a platoon sergeant. He served on the front lines leading and caring for his men. He was shot and wounded during a scouting mission on April 21, 1945, near the Küsten Canal, Germany. Upon his recovery the war had ended.”

Today, adds Dwight, the photo “is a great family picture. It makes us proud. However, with the passing of time it’s easy for one to forget the emotion at that moment. With the uncertainty of war, people always wondered whether they would ever see each other again?”

We thank Dwight for his contribution to Find-Share-Discuss, and invite other readers to share similar memories on this website.
