1. Visit Calgary and learn about Holland
The Military Museums in Calgary will be hosting a special exhibition of artifacts and photos relating to the liberation of the Netherlands during the Second World War. There will also be video displays relating oral histories of the conflict from the veterans themselves, plus an exhibit dedicated to Dutch war brides.

2. Celebrate the Queen at the Pioneer Village
This year, the Fanshawe Pioneer Village is holding a celebration of the birthday of Her Majesty Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India. This will be a day-long event including 19th-century games, historical speeches and a vintage baseball match between the London Tecumsehs and the Woodstock Actives.

3. Go to the Canadian International Military Tattoo
Military music stirs the soul. Or, at least, that’s what you might believe after you visit the Canadian International Military Tattoo this year. The Tattoo performances are based on an ancient military tradition of rousing music, dancing, pipes and drums.

4. Visit Halifax for a special day at the Citadel
In early June, the Halifax Citadel will host a special event to allow visitors to discover aspects of life on the Western Front in their new “trench experience.” There will be displays of battle tactics, uniformed interpreters and unique artifacts. It only happens for one day, so plan accordingly.

5. Capture Old Fort Henry in Kingston
Though it’s never been captured in the past, Fort Henry is going to be invaded this June. They’ve teamed up with the Kingston Personnel Support Programs at CFB Kingston to present the inaugural Garrison Triathlon. So grab your bike, swimsuit and running shoes and glide across the finish line inside the old fort.
