Five things to do and see in November/December 2015:
1. See the World War Women exhibit
This fall, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa is putting on a special exhibit to showcase the efforts of women during the first and second world wars, whether they were working, volunteering or serving in uniform. Their stories will be told through oral histories, artifacts, texts, images and more.

2. Visit Calgary for a trip back to the Cold War
The Air Force Museum Society of Alberta in Calgary is opening a new exhibit focused on the efforts of the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Cold War. The exhibit will feature four jets from the era and a vast collection of materials telling the story of more than 40 years of global tension.

3. Pay your respects during Veterans’ Week
While no one would understate the importance of Remembrance Day, there is actually an entire week of activities dedicated to veterans and remembrance every year. Numerous events, such as vigils and banquets, will be held in community halls and Legions across the country. This is a great way to deepen your connection to Canada’s veterans.

4. Check out a military show near Toronto
Oshawa, Ont., will host the Toronto Military Show in November. It is a place for military aficionados of all types to peruse a huge assortment of artifacts and items of interest, including antique muskets and pistols, medals, badges, insignia, war souvenirs and many other items.

5. End violence against women
Dec. 6 is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. On this anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal in 1989, where 14 young women were murdered, there will be events and vigils in almost every community across Canada.
