There are plenty of online resources about the contribution of black Canadians to our military history.

See a video about the Victoria Rifles on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website  or read about the Second Construction Battalion on the Veterans Affairs Canada website.

Canadian Forces websites also are a rich resource.  The CIC website has a timely piece on contributions of black soldiers during the War of 1812.  There’s an article on the Royal Canadian Air Force site that highlights the persistence of those wanting to overcome racial barriers to serve their country.  The Army’s 38 Canadian Brigade Group website has interviews with more modern military members, while William Hall, who in 1859 became the first Canadian sailor to receive a Victoria Cross, is profiled on the Historica Dominion Institute website   and on militaryphotos.net.

The Maple Leaf , Canada’s military newsletter, has a short black military history.

Veterans Affairs Canada has biographies of black military heroes and the Toronto District School Board has compiled a massive list of resources  of African heritage internet sites.
