R.J. Harper of Gananoque, Ont., contributes this story: A troop landing ship was approaching the enemy coast at night when it suddenly stopped miles from shore.

The troop commanding officer (CO) rushed to the captain: “Why are we stopped?”

“On account of the fog,” the captain said.

“But I can see the moon and stars,” said the CO.

“Well, unless the boilers blow up, we’re not going that way,” the captain said.
