From A Loving Son

Nora Groenendyk shares this photo of her father, Daniel Joseph Doyle, and two unidentified soldiers taken during the First World War in 1918.

PHOTO: J. SHARP, GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

“The photo was probably taken to be sent home to the mothers of the three men,” notes Groenendyk. “The one on the far right is my father…who fought with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery…” An inscription with the photo reads “Your Loving Son Dan.” Groenendyk believes the photo was taken at a hospital while the men were recovering from wounds, and probably sent home to prove they were OK. We thank Nora for her contribution to Find-Share-Discuss, and invite readers to share similar memories of wartime or peacetime service.
