Cormier was an 18-year-old corporal, leading a section of eight men who took up the rear of the patrol. “They actually jumped on us and it was hand-to-hand combat,” said Cormier, now 90 years old. “We fought with bayonets, and I killed quite a few.”

Doug Murphy was a young electronics technician in 191 Canadian Infantry Workshop, the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He and a handful of comrades were seconded for much of their time in Korea to a special British/Commonwealth unit he said “nobody’s ever heard of”—the Divisional Telecommunications, or Divtels, Workshop.
