Here are the answers to our Readers’ Quiz in the May/June 2012 issue.

  1. United States President James Madison declared war on Britain on June 18, 1812.
  2. Although exact numbers vary, Veterans Affairs Canada says 66,655 Canadians and Newfoundlanders died in the First World War.
  3. Veronica Foster of Toronto came to be known as the Bren Gun Girl after posing for photos of her at work making Bren guns at the John Inglis Company.
  4. Greece was originally invaded by Italy in the Second World War. When that effort started to fail, Germany also invaded.
  5. HMCS Sackville is the only remaining corvette from the Second World War. She can be found in Halifax serving as the National Naval Memorial.
